Description
The Bengal Tiger by Amy E. Fraser. This is an expressive big cat portrait in shades of orange, gold, black and white with brilliant green eyes complimented with a hunter green background.
The tiger (Panthera tigris) is the largest living cat species and a member of the genus Panthera. It is most recognizable for its dark vertical stripes on orange fur with a white underside. An apex predator, it primarily preys on ungulates such as deer and wild boar. It is territorial and generally a solitary but social predator, requiring large contiguous areas of habitat, which support its requirements for prey and rearing of its offspring. Tiger cubs stay with their mother for about two years, then become independent and leave their mother's home range to establish their own. The Bengal tiger's coat is yellow to light orange, with stripes ranging from dark brown to black; the belly and the interior parts of the limbs are white, and the tail is orange with black rings. Males and females have an average total length of 94 to 120 inches, including a tail of 33 to 43 inches long. They typically range 35 to 43 inches in height at the shoulders. The standard weight of males ranges from 386 to 573 pounds, while that of the females ranges from 220 to 350 pounds. The tiger has exceptionally stout teeth. Its canines are 3.0 to 3.9 inches long and thus the longest among all cats. Tiger symbolism and meanings include strength, cunning, majesty, independence, and immortality.
