Description
The Hyacinth Macaw by Amy E. Fraser. This is an expressive parrot portrait in shades of blue and yellow with kind intelligent eyes complimented with a Sunkist orange textural background.
The hyacinth macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus), or hyacinthine macaw, is a parrot native to central and eastern South America. The largest parrot by length in the world, the hyacinth macaw is 3 ft 3 inches long from the tip of its tail to the top of its head and weighs 2 to 4 pounds. Each wing is 15 to 17 inches long. The tail is long and pointed. It is the largest macaw and the largest flying parrot species. The hyacinth macaw feathers are entirely blue, lighter above. However, the neck feathers can sometimes be slightly grey. The ring around the parrots eyes and area just underneath the beak are a strong, vibrant yellow. The hyacinth macaw is sometimes kept as a companion parrot. This bird is described as "gentle" and is not generally an aggressive bird. It appears to enjoy interacting playfully with humans. The hyacinth macaw can learn to talk, but it is not as gifted in that area as some other species. Nonetheless, it is an extremely intelligent bird that may learn to use words and phrases in the correct context. It can live for over 50 years in captivity.
Amy E. Fraser’s Oil Pastel Animal Portrait series is an impassioned tribute to the beauty and magic of our beloved Animal Kingdom. Fun, gestural and energetic, these vibrant animals are painted in a stylized realism that is imbued with distinctive character and personality.
