Description
The Little Black Bear by Amy E. Fraser. This is an expressive North American Black Bear portrait in shades of black, brown, gold and purple with intelligent red brown eyes complimented with a cranberry red textural background.
The American black bear (Ursus americanus), also known as the black bear or sometimes baribal, is a medium-sized bear endemic to North America. It is the continent's smallest and most widely distributed bear species. American black bears are omnivores, with their diets varying greatly depending on season and location. They typically live in largely forested areas, but will leave forests in search of food, and are sometimes attracted to human communities due to the immediate availability of food. American black bears have eyesight and hearing comparable to that of humans. Their keenest sense is their sense of smell, which is about seven times more sensitive than a domestic dog. American black bears are excellent and strong swimmers, swimming for pleasure and to feed (largely on fish). They regularly climb trees to feed, escape enemies and hibernate. The average lifespan in the wild is 18 years, though it is quite possible for wild individuals to survive for more than 23 years.
Amy E. Fraser’s Oil Pastel Animal Portrait series is an impassioned tribute to the beauty and magic of our beloved Animal Kingdom. Fun, gestural and energetic, these vibrant animals are painted in a stylized realism that is imbued with distinctive character and personality.
