Description
The Penang Eruption Discus by Amy E. Fraser. This is an expressive tropical fish portrait in shades of white, red, orange and yellow with orange eyes complimented with a glowing yellow background.
Symphysodon, colloquially known as discus, is a genus of cichlids native to the Amazon river basin in South America. Due to their distinctive shape, behavior, and bright colors and patterns, discus are popular as freshwater aquarium fish, and their aquaculture in several countries in Asia is a major industry. They are sometimes referred to as pompadour fish. The discus fish has attracted a cult following of collectors and has created a multimillion dollar international industry complete with shows, competitions, and reputed online breeders. Penang Eruptions are characterized with having fine spots all over their bodies. Outstanding individuals may also have spots on their gill plates and chins, sharp contrast between the spots and the base color, while having the potential of growing to the size of 6 or more inches with decent shape.
Amy E. Fraser’s Oil Pastel Animal Portrait series is an impassioned tribute to the beauty and magic of our beloved Animal Kingdom. Fun, gestural and energetic, these vibrant animals are painted in a stylized realism that is imbued with distinctive character and personality.
