Description
Here is a pole bean close up in the Kitchen Garden on July 27, 2020. These seeds were salvaged from a bag of seeds I collected from our vegetable garden back in 2009. Not only did the seeds live but they produced tons of amazingly delicious pole beans for weeks.
The pole beans were planted with Morning Glories. The two vining plants with similar leaf structures seemed to be working quite well together until I realized all of that healthy nitrogen being released into the soil from the pole beans was ruining the chances for Morning Glory flower production. Apparently the Morning Glories prefer to be in poor soil conditions or "crisis" before they feel the need to bloom. However, the nitrogen created some extremely healthy monster sized vines with great big tropical sized leaves. The Morning Glory vines soon swallowed up the pole beans as well as the entire front gate trellis and they buried my beautiful gate house. I was frequently reminded of a horror novel inspired by vines when passing underneath their groping green tendrils. More photos of this scary green phenomenon will be presented later in this Victory Garden collection.
The Victory Garden collection is presented as a photo diary of Amy E. Fraser’s vegetable gardening journey during the 2020 pandemic. All works in collaboration with Mother Nature, combining Art, Agriculture, Landscaping and Adventure!
