Description

The Proud Blue Peacock by Amy E. Fraser. This is an expressive Peacock portrait in shades of brilliant blue, teal, gray, aqua and green with bold bright green eyes complimented with an apricot orange textural background.

Peacock, also called peafowl, any of three species of resplendent birds of the pheasant family, Phasianidae (order Galliformes). Strictly, the male is a peacock, and the female is a peahen; both are peafowl. The male peacock weighs around four to six kilograms, while females weigh about 2.75 to four kilograms. The length of peacocks is about six to seven feet, while the Peahens are about three to 3.5 feet long. The peacock head displays a spray of crested feathers creating a regal crown-like appearance. The peacock’s eyes feature white blotches above and below. The beak is approximately one inch in length. Peacock’s are known for their snake killing prowess. Peacocks are social birds, they like to interact with humans, however, they can become quite aggressive when they do not approve the entry of a stranger in their territory. Peacocks the national bird of India, they symbolize compassion, benevolence, knowledge and kindness in Hinduism. In the Greek and Roman mythologies, Goddess Hera is associated with peacocks. In Christianity the Peacock represents everlasting life. The average lifespan of peacocks is 15 to 20 years in the wild. However, peacocks can live up to 40 years in captivity.
