The fennec fox is a small crepuscular fox native to the deserts of North Africa. Its most distinctive feature is the unusually large ears, which serve to dissipate heat and listen for underground prey. The fennec fox has sand-colored fur which reflects sunlight during the day and helps keep it warm at night. Its nose is black and its tapering tail has a black tip. The fennec is the smallest fox species. The fennec coat, ears, and kidney functions have adapted to the desert environment with high temperatures and little water. It mainly eats insects, small mammals and birds. The Fennec Fox is a delight to behold, overflowing with charm, intelligence and character and is part of Amy E. A menagerie is traditionally a collection of captive animals, frequently exotic, kept for display; a precursor to the modern zoo or zoological garden. However, Amy’s Menagerie is one of the imagination only, all animals represented in this collection are wild and free.
