The Gar by Amy E. Fraser is a painting of a striking Gar fish smiling out at the viewer with his very impressive teeth, displayed with flowing water vegetation, stones and an earthy swamp bottom landscape. Gars are an ancient group of ray-finned fish in the family Lepisosteidae. They inhabit fresh, brackish, and occasionally marine waters of eastern North America, Central America and Cuba. Gars have elongated bodies that are heavily armored with ganoid scales, and fronted by similarly elongated jaws filled with long, sharp teeth. Their tails are heterocercal, and the dorsal fins are close to the tail. Gars are considered to be the only surviving members of the Ginglymodi, a group of bony fish that flourished in the Mesozoic. The Gar is a delight to behold, overflowing with charm, intelligence and character and is part of Amy E. Fraser’s Menagerie collection of whimsical hand drawn and hand painted animal portraits.

Amy E. Fraser is a Fine Artist, Photographer and Baker. She creates in her home studio nestled in a beautiful wildflower meadow, surrounded by enchanting wildlife, deep in a magical fairy tale forest. When Amy is not drawing, painting or sculpting she can be found wandering the forest, photographing nature, tending to her garden or practicing the fascinating craft of Sourdough baking. Amy has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design and a Masters of Arts and Liberal Studies from Dartmouth College.
