Description
Here is a look at the Potager Garden Gate and the Pole Bean and Morning Glory Trellis progress in Late July. In this photo you can see that the progress of the trellis bean growth is extremely uneven. That is because the Chipmunks dug through the layers of netting and ate one entire side of freshly sprouted pole beans. Apparently it was quite the delicacy because they didn’t leave a single bean behind. I was told after ferociously scolding the adorable little rodents that this is also a trick pulled by Crows and Ravens. Admittedly we have a large population of Crows and Ravens, especially since I started sourdough bread baking and sharing the stale ends. Anyway, I seeded and reseeded until I was finally able to get some bean plants to grow past a sprout. Frustrations and setbacks aside, it all worked out fine by the end of the season. When you make friends with the wildlife you have to accept the consequences of your friendship. For me that means we have a herd of delightfully tame wild critters, but it also means they have no respect for our boundaries.
