Rüppell's Blue Eyed Griffon Vulture by Amy E. Fraser. This is an expressive vulture portrait in shades of gray, brown and blue with penetrating blue eyes complimented with a medium orchid purple textural background.
Griffon vultures are a species of Old World vulture found across Europe, Asia and Africa. Rüppell's vulture (Gyps rueppelli), also called Rüppell's griffon vulture, named after Eduard Rüppell, is a large bird of prey, mainly native to the Sahel region and East Africa. Rüppell's griffon vultures are large African vultures, growing between 33 to 38 inches in height, with an astounding 8 foot wingspan. Males and females feature similar coloration — brown or black overall, with a white underbelly, thin fluff covering the head and neck and a white collar. Their neck is bare of feathers, this is an important adaptation as these animals are carnivores which primarily scavenge for carcasses of deceased animals to consume.
